Kobo Buys Aquafadas

Kobo Inc. has signed an agreement to acquire digital publishing technology company Aquafadas. Kobo says the Aquafadas Digital Publishing System will allow it to add a selection of rich media including magazines, academic publications, comics, and children’s books to its global store. The company says Aquafadas shares its vision of providing publishers tools to produce multi-channel and digital content easily. more

Quark Acquires MobileIQ, Creator of Pressrun

Quark has aquired Mobile IQ, creators of PressRun, a Cloud-based digital publishing solution. The purchase is Quark's first since being acquired itself by Platinum Equity in August 2011. more

Barnes and Noble and Microsoft Partner on New E-Publishing Subsidiary

Barnes & Noble and Microsoft have formed a strategic partnership to create an new BN subsidiary building on the history of digital reading technology development of both companies. The subsidiary, which will include the BN Nook Digital and College businesses, will get a $300 million investment from Microsoft at a post-money valuation of $1.7 billion in exchange for a 17.6% equity stake. BN will own 82.4% of the subsidiary, which will have an ongoing relationship with the company’s retail stores. One of its first projects will be a NOOK application for Windows 8. more
