Microsoft has announced plans to manufacture and sell tablet computers. The first, which will be released at an unspecified time later this year, will be based on an ARM processor and will run Windows RT, the special version of Windows designed for ARM. Taking a page from Apple, Microsoft says it will only be able to run applications sold through a Microsoft App store. The second, which will be released three months after the first, will run Windows 8 on an unspecified Intel chip and will presumably be able to run all the Windows desktop applications. Both will be 10.5" tablets, both will feature the Microsoft Metro touchscreen interface, and both will come with a unique keyboard cover. No pricing was revealed. more
