Investment bank Berkery Noyes has released its First Quarter 2012 Mergers and Acquisitions Trend Report for the Online and Mobile Industry. Findings in the report indicate a 4% decline in transaction volume and a 14% decline in deal value to $12.8 billion. Five of the 10 most notable transactions, including Oracle’s acquisition of Taleo for $1.8 billion, the largest, were in the SaaS/ASP segment. more
Kobo has announced electronic versions of the McClatchy Company daily newspapers are now available in the Kobo store as well as a two-week free trial to any of the company’s 30 daily newspapers including the Miami Herald and its Spanish counterpart, El Nuevo Herald. Other newspapers included are the Sacramento Bee, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Kansas City Star, Charlotte Observer, and the News and Observer. more
Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. has announced three new tablets in its Excite Android family in 13.3", 10.1", and 7.7" display sizes. The new tablets feature scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass displays and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. more
Next Issue Media has introduced its tablet newsstand for Android which features a flexible content usage plan based on a single fee. Next Issue is available in the United States on tablets running Android v 3.0+. An iPad version is expected soon. more
RR Donnelley has taken an equity stake in San-Francisco based Real Valuable Corp., maker of the CoffeeTable iPad catalog shopping app. CoffeeTable provides consumers with a tablet shopping experience, allowing them to browse and shop across multiple retailers and provides a comprehensive set of data analytics to guide retailers’ multi-channel marketing strategies. more
The Boston Globe has introduced a digital replica edition of the printed newspaper with added interactive functionality. Available for desktops and laptops as well as tablets and mobile devices, the replica is published on BostonGlobe.com as well as the iTunes store as a standalone iPad and iPhone app and includes the sections, articles, photos, and page numbers of the printed edition. more
The Magazine Publishing Association (MPA) and senior magazine publishing executives have developed a common set of definitions, a consistent position on timing for data release, and guidelines on tablet advertising metrics. These voluntary guidelines are intended to clarify measurement of magazine media audiences on tablets for advertisers. The guidelines recommend five initial metrics for use by magazines, agencies, and advertisers:
T. Rowe Price has announced the iPad edition of its quarterly magazine for mutual fund shareholders. The free T. Rowe Price Investor app includes interactive functionality including graphics and videos that accompany articles, access to exclusive bonus material, and archived issues of the magazine. more
