Yendis Publishing House, a Brazilian publisher of technical and scientific health-related books, has selected the Access Digital Publish Ecosystem from Access Co. Ltd. as the technology on which to create new digital content for a range of tablet devices. Yendis plans to publish reference and training materials for various vertical market segments. more 

New Men’s Magazine Hits iPad with iMirus

Kandy Magazine, a new men’s lifestyle magazine focused on social insight and activities for men, has partnered with iMirus to develop an iPad app. Issue 5 is the first issue specifically designed for the new iPad retina display. The magazine increased the resolution in its pictorial of cover model DJ Colleen Shannon to take full advantage of the new display. more 

ABC Board Endorses Digital Reporting Vision for Cross-Media Metrics

The ABC board of directors has endorsed a new report format significantly expanding how consumer magazines will report metrics for digital publication and reviewed plans for broadening reporting metrics for cross-media newspaper publishing. The board approved a Consolidated Media Report for business publications and outlined a vision for more frequent reporting of data via an enhanced integrated database. more 

Rochester Magazine Publishes on the iPad

Rochester Magazine, the monthly glossy magazine of the Rochester, New York, Democrat and Chronicle, is now available on the iPad through an app in the Apple App Store as a single-issue download or annual subscription. The app includes the entire magazine content with companion video and photo galleries, plus tablet-exclusive bonus sections. more 

Lusso Releases Retina Screen-Compatible iPad App

Luxury magazine publisher Lusso has released an iPad app with support for the new iPad retina display. The new app, among the first to fully support the new display, is a free download from the Apple App store. more 

New England Journal of Medicine CHooses PressRun for Tablet App

The New England Journal of Medicine has chosen PressRun as its technical platform for its new iPad app. The new iPad Edition provides access to the print publication’s articles enhanced with interactive features such as audio, video, slideshows, and animation. more

Newsquest Announces Five iOS Apps

Newsquest Media Group has announced five new apps for sale in the Apple App Store for iPhones and iPads. The apps, part of a 12-month trial to assess reader appeal and commercial potential, are for UK daily, paid-for newspapers The Northern Echo and The Argus, paid-for weekly The Oxford Times, free weekly The Sutton Guardian, and sports weekly The Hampshire Sports Pink. more

Vanderbilt University Uses QuarkXPress to Create iPad App

Vanderbilt University has created an iPad version of House Organ, its magazine for staff, faculty, volunteers, and students of Vanderbilt University medical center, using QuarkXPress and App Studio. The app can be downloaded from the Apple app store. The app is a special 30th anniversary edition of the magazine including a complete retrospective of the 30 years of magazine covers and is available only via the iPad app. more 

Mag+ Announces Tablet Publishing Contest

Mag+ has announced a tablet publishing contest for magazines, music and film, comics, books, catalogs, and creatives. The competition offers eight cash prizes, plus iPads, exposure to industry leaders in creative fields, and the possibility of being featured in a Mag+ international marketing campaign. Entrants may submit material in any of six creative categories. One $5,000 Best in Show and six $1,000 category prizes will be awarded. more
